Program Philosophy

Justin-Siena Baseball aims to deliver a high-caliber program that is loved by its players, respected by opponents and officials, and enjoyed throughout the school community.

Built on a culture of trust, optimism, and consistency, the baseball program will expose student-athletes to a fun and competitive environment where they will develop into young men who act with conviction. The program’s philosophies are simple: “Find the win in the situation” and “Take one bite at a time.”

Justin-Siena Baseball enjoys a long standing tradition of competitive excellence. To carry that forward requires that everyone puts their time in.

Meet the Coach

Coach Tayson is now in his 9th year as the head baseball coach and his 12th overall in the program. 2024 was an outstanding season culminating in a North Coast Section D-IV title while also advancing to the final four of the D-III CIF NorCal Championships.  In addition, the team also earned the NCS Scholastic Championship, pulling off the rare feat of earning both pennants awarded by the section for excellence on the field and in the classroom. Tayson was named a finalist for Bay Area Baseball Coach of the Year by West Coast Preps in addition to being chosen to the North Bay All-Star Game coaching staff. The program was ranked #3 in their division statewide by Cal-Hi Sports and #15 among all divisions and schools in the SF Chronicle's final Bay Area rankings.  The Braves had an impressive 2023 playoff run under Tayson, winning three playoff games en route to the North Coast Section Championship game as well as being recognized by Cal-Hi Sports with an honorable mention in their statewide Division 4 rankings. In 2022 Coach was named a finalist for Bay Area Baseball Coach of the Year by West Coast Preps after helping to lead the team to a 20-7 record, a VVAL postseason title, and the NCS semifinals.  In 2018 he helped guide the Braves to the NCS quarterfinals with an opening round upset over Cardinal Newman.  He also coached in the program for the 2014 and 2015 NCS championships and the 2016 section runner-up squad. In the classroom, the program has garnered national recognition for academic excellence from the American Baseball Coaches Association in each of the past five seasons.  Overall, Coach Tayson is now in his 21st year of coaching high school baseball, having previously served at Sonoma Valley High from 2005-2012.  At Sonoma Valley he was on the staff that won the 2008 NCS 3A Redwood Empire Championship.  Coach obtained his BS in Kinesiology with a Coaching Emphasis from Sonoma State University and works full-time on campus in Admissions and Communications.  Prior to coming on to JS he worked in several departments and educational roles at Hanna Boys Center from 2015-2018.
