Why Sports Medicine?

Justin-Siena’s Athletic Trainer is a qualified allied health care professional educated and experienced in the management of health care issues associated with sports participation. The Athletic Trainer functions in cooperation with medical personnel, athletic administrators, coaches, and parents in the development and coordination of efficient and responsive athletic health care delivery systems.

In cooperation with physicians and other allied health care personnel, Athletic Trainers function as integral members of an athlete's health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, professional sports programs, sports medicine clinics, and other athletic health care settings.

Focus:

Injury Prevention -Through preventative rehab, treatment, or taping, the Athletic Trainer can help student athletes prevent injuries.

Injury Assessment - All athletic-related injuries should be assessed initially by the Athletic Trainer to determine if it can be managed in-house or will need to be referred to an outside healthcare provider.

Rehabilitation and Treatment - Some injuries can be treated and/or rehabilitated with the Athletic Trainer during community time, lunch, or after school in the Athletic Training Room. All rehabilitation times are coordinated with the student athlete and the Athletic Trainer.

Emergency Management -The Athletic Trainer is present during games and practices to respond to emergency situations with our student athletes, coaches, and fans.
Physicals - Prior to trying out or participating in any sport, student athletes must have a valid physical examination to be reviewed by the Athletic Trainer. Physicals are valid for one (1) year. Physicals for student athletes are managed and stored on SportsWare, an online resource tool that  is 100% HIPAA compliant.

SWAY Testing -The SWAY test is a baseline concussion test that needs to be completed every year for football, volleyball, cheer, water polo, basketball, soccer, wrestling, lacrosse, baseball, and softball.
