A Braves Family Connection

The grandson of a former faculty member in the Science Department was the recipient of the Justin-Siena STEM Scholar Award at graduation from The Presentation School in Sonoma last June, and perhaps he has his mothers’ family genes to thank for his interest and talent in science and math.
Dominic Pucci ’22 is the grandson of retired teacher, Phil Amormino. Mr. Amormino was hired in 1979 by the late Br. Gary York, FSC, former principal, and shortly thereafter he and his wife, Kerry, had a daughter, Kelly. Kelly is now a member of our JS parent community and shares, “I am so grateful that Dominic has the opportunity to learn at Justin-Siena. I feel blessed to be part of the community again and grateful that he gets to experience such a wonderful place.”

For ten years Mr. Amormino taught physics, chemistry, and math at Justin-Siena. Kelly recalls that his classroom was Mr. Chappell’s current classroom. “I remember being a little kid in the prep room in between the science rooms watching the back of my dad's head as he taught his classes. His 1983 physics class even helped name my little sister (Kathleen), who was born that year, and a later became a Brave herself, as a member of the Class of 2001. Although technically retired for many years, my dad is still teaching—this year he is teaching the Honors Algebra section at The Presentation School.”

Another family connection - Kathleen Amormino ’01 married fellow Brave Isaac Herrera ’01, son of our recently retired long-time Main Office Receptionist, Letty Herrera! We love these Braves family connections.

Read more about Mr. Amormino in this 2015 Op-Ed piece written by Jonathan Farrell ’82.
“ ‘I love science, physics and working with machinery,’" he said. ‘I like physics and the sciences because it explains things.’ Amormino said he treasured his time at Justin-Siena in the Science and Math department. "I enjoyed every minute of it and yes, I had my students build rockets." It was very rewarding for him.”
